Meet the 10 Startups Driving Innovation in Southern Alberta’s New Velocity Cohort

Introducing the Newest Alberta Catalyzer Velocity Startups from Calgary and Southern Alberta.

The Velocity program is designed to accelerate growth for startups that are already generating recurring revenue and preparing to scale. These companies are on the cusp of major expansion, gearing up to refine their operations, strengthen their business models, and become investment-ready.

A group of startup founders sit together at Platform Calgary. They represent the latest cohort of innovators in the latest Alberta Catalyzer Velocity South program (Cohort 15 | Winter 2025).

Cohort 15 features ten startups that are building cutting-edge solutions across diverse industries in Southern Alberta. From smarter construction estimates to fintech tools, goal-setting apps, and virtual experiences, these founders are driving impactful change. Their innovations span industries including healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, and education—revolutionizing everything from caregiver support and workforce development to restaurant rewards and mobility solutions.

On April 15th, you have the chance to watch these founders pitch live as they take the stage to pitch their companies live at the Alberta Catalyzer Velocity South Showcase in Calgary.

Meet the Startups | Cohort 15

PataBid

Founder: Melvin Newman

Patabid Inc. is a construction tech company focused on the complex Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) and Fire Protection trades. The Patabid estimating platform automates the front end of business for these companies using custom built advanced ML/AIs, direct supplier integrations and a comprehensive dataset of materials out of the box. Through the advanced automation features Patabid users have been able to achieve a 2 to 3 times throughput in project estimating while increasing their accuracy and competitive edge.

SafetyLog Co.

Founder: Amir Abrari

SafetyLog Co. specializes in delivering innovative Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) solutions through expert consulting services and cutting-edge software. Our flagship platform, SafeSphere, empowers businesses in oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing industries to streamline incident reporting, risk management, and compliance with real-time analytics and AI-driven insights.

Founder: Matthew Daniels

5 O'Clock is a mobile app, that allows users to discover Bars & Restaurants in a whole new way. We are an industry first, universal rewards program. Post reviews, photos and interact with friends to earn monetary vouchers that can be redeemed at your favourite locations.

Our platform fosters motivation through streaks, progress tracking, and interactive features, empowering users to turn aspirations into accomplishments.

Metasoft® Studios Ltd., based in Calgary, Alberta, is at the forefront of digital innovation, specializing in advanced 3D scanning and hyper-realistic digital doubles for film, gaming, and interactive platforms. As an approved Fortnite developer, we harness cutting-edge tools like Unreal Engine to create immersive metaverse experiences that connect people, brands, and stories in groundbreaking ways.

About Alberta Catalyzer

Alberta Catalyzer is a merit-based pre-accelerator that offers company support, resources, and coaching to entrepreneurs aiming to launch and grow their tech-enabled companies, preparing them for advancement to the scale-up and acceleration stages.

Launched in 2022, Alberta Catalyzer is developed and delivered by Platform Calgary and Edmonton Unlimited, with support from partners and organizations across the Alberta Innovation Network.

Alberta Catalyzer is a part of the Alberta Scaleup and Growth Accelerator Program (Scaleup GAP), led by Alberta Innovates. The consortium, which also includes Technology and Innovation, Edmonton Unlimited, the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund and Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), allocated $35 million over three years to retain business accelerators. It’s part of an overall government goal to help create 20,000 jobs and increase technology firm revenue to $5 billion by 2030. 

Alberta Catalyzer is open to ALL entrepreneurs launching and growing a tech-enabled company in Alberta – which includes the development of a new solution, product or process that has the potential to improve or advance the industry with commercial viability.
